   
SmartLipo,SlimLipo, Vaser Ultrasonic liposuction, tumescent liposuction have become quite popular. These are both using laser filaments to melt the fat which is then removed with cannulas. It does work best on smaller areas and can be done even under a local or tumescent anesthesia in the office. Patients may experience more pain after laser liposuction but the recovery is quite quick. Bruising may still occur as well as other problems like infections, unevenness and fluid collections. Just because a laser is used does not mean you will get removal of all the fat and the skin will shrink down. Patients need to be realistic and not listen to all the hype surrounding some of these procedures. Every plastic surgeon, including myself, want the best results for our patients with the least amount of downtime and complications. Be realistic in what you want to accomplish.
